Making touch controls feel good in racing games
Racing games live and die on their controls, and phones make that tricky. There's no wheel, no pedals, just a slab of glass. Yet some games make it feel wonderful, and a few habits help.
First, try both control schemes before you decide. Tilt feels natural for wide sweeping tracks, but on tight courses like the ones in Nitro District I found tapping the corners far more precise. Your thumbs don't obscure the road that way either.
Second, learn to lift off the accelerator. New players hold boost constantly and slam every wall. The fastest laps come from smooth cornering, not raw speed, so ease off before the turn and power out of it.
Finally, adjust your sensitivity if the game allows. A slightly lower setting removes the twitchiness that causes over-steering. Small change, big difference in how the game feels.
